Keflavik airport is about 45 minutes away from Reykjavik city. But don’t worry! Even if your flight is early in the morning or late at night, transportation is always available.
Tip: Booking your transportation before arriving saves you valuable time you could easily spend on exploring!
Airport Transfer Bus
The most common choice to get to Reykjavik and to us from the airport is through one of the shuttle busses.
The one recommended by our guests is Airport Direct. Their orange coloured information desk is located just outside of the arrival hall to your right and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The bus is waiting outside the terminal on the parking lot to the right.
When choosing the Airport Direct Economy option you will be transited from the company’s bus terminal to a short-route bus with the drop-off right in front of the Blue House.
The company also offers Private Airport Transfer options for a group from 1-4 and 5-8 persons, which are suitable if you are traveling with family, in a group or you simply just like to travel with more convenience. Keep in mind that this will cost you a bit more than the Economy bus transfer. This option gets you directly to the Blue House without having to transfer. If you are a group of up to 12 people, they also offer special operations if you contact them directly.
You may find some deals from other companies which are slightly cheaper, but please be aware of the drop off options if you stay with us because not all operators will take you to the Blue House. In that case, you might need to take a taxi from the drop off point to our place, which can become more expensive eventually. So please make sure to ask them in advance if they offer the Blue House as an official drop-off.
If you want to explore Iceland more freely a popular option is to rent a car with a convenient pick-up and drop-off at Keflavik Airport. This option is best recommended in summer when the roads are clear and safe to drive on. From May until October, it is high season here, which means you might have to wait a while until you are able to pick up your rental car.
In the city areas look for a place where they offer free and easy parking to avoid the unnecessary hassle. To spare the trouble, each of our houses includes parking space for your rental car.
One of the most trustworthy car rental companies in Iceland is Herzt. The price might be a bit higher than other companies, but if you book directly on our website you will receive a 25% discount. To find your perfect fit for the road, look here.
Public transport – Strætó
If you are traveling on a budget and you don’t mind taking longer to get to us or the city you can use the public bus with number 55. To do that, you have to go to Strætó’s bus stop at Kjóavellir located on the left side when you exit the arrival hall.
The normal fare for traveling between Reykjavik and Keflavik airport is 1800 ISK (around 13 euros). When exiting the first bus do not forget to ask the bus driver for the transfer ticket for the next one. You will change from the stop “Ráðhúsið” to the bus number 11 direction “Seltjarnarnes”, get off at the stop
Lindarbraut / Hæðarbraut then walk up the street (around 300 meters) to the Blue House. More information about the bus you can find here.
Keep in mind that you only save around 8 euros and the schedule of the bus is limited on weekends and holidays.
You can check the exact timetable of the bus here.
We hope this will help to make your decision on how to safely get around the island from the airport.
