We receive a lot of questions from the guests regarding airport transfer from the Keflavik Airport to the Blue House and vice versa. There are some options you can choose to get to Reykjavik from the Keflavik airport, and I could not tell you which one would be the best, but below I will give you my some suggestions.
First of all, there is one thing you should know before your arrival, that Keflavik airport locates about 45 minutes away from Reykjavik city. But you do not have to be worried about that because there are still many Airport transfer options even your flight is in the late evening or early morning. Prebooking is always necessary to assure you the most comfortable travel. 😉
Airport Transfer Bus
The most common and cheapest way to get to Reykjavik from the airport is by shuttle bus. There are some airport transport companies provide the shuttle service which takes you directly to the Blue House from the Keflavik Airport. One of them, which is highly recommended by our previous guests, is the „Airport Direct“.
Just outside of the arrival hall you can easily find the information desk of the company in orange color on your right-hand side which opens 24 hours every day. The buses are situated right outside of the terminal.
They offer both Economy and Private Transfer service, which you can choose as your preference.
With the Airport Direct Economy option including hotel drop off, you will be transited from the company’s bus terminal to another short-route bus with the drop-off is in front of the Blue House. There is also possible to book the other way round with pick-up from the Blue House.
You may find some deals from other companies which are slightly cheaper, but please be aware of the drop off options if you stay with us because not all operators will take you to the Blue House. In that case, you might need to take a taxi from the drop off point to our place, and at the end of the day, maybe you will have to pay even more. So, if you book with another airport transfer company, please make sure to ask them in advance if they will take you to the Blue House.
The company also offers Private Airport Transfer options for a group from 1-4 and 5-8 persons, which are suitable if you are traveling with family, in a group or you simply just like to travel with more convenience without having to move your luggage from one bus to another. This is, of course, will cost you a bit more than the Economy bus transfer. However, it obviously has its own advantages which you can consider yourself about paying the added cost. If you book private transfer service, the driver will be at the arrival hall waiting for you with a sign of your name on it. The driver then will drive you directly from the airport to the Blue House so that you can save a lot of time.
If you are in a group of up to 12 people, they also offer special operation if you contact them directly.
You now can book the company’s service directly on our website
Another option for you is to rent a car with pick-up and drop-off at Keflavik Airport. If you are about to explore Iceland with a car, which is really recommended in summer when the roads along the island are mostly not blocked as in the winter, this is what I think the best way for you. But you should expect that the airport would probably be congested, especially at times of flights arrivals and even more in the summer, so you might have to wait for quite long. Since from May to October is the high season of tourism in Iceland, you should be aware to book as soon as your travel plans being fixed. It is very important to consider a reliable car rental company if you do not want to ruin your holiday by getting into trouble with a bad-condition car. Also, it is worth it to look for a place where they offer free and easy parking to avoid the not necessary hassle. All our 3 houses offer free parking space which would keep you from a lot of troubles. One of the most trustworthy car rental companies in Iceland is Herzt, The rental price might be a bit higher than other companies, but you may book a car from this company on our website with 25% discount. You can look for an available car here
From Keflavik Airport, you can now also get to the Blue House by public bus number 55. To use the bus, you will have to go to Strætó’s bus stop at Kjóavellir located on the Departure side of the terminal.
You can find the map in the picture below.
The normal fare for traveling between Reykjavik and Keflavik airport is 1800 ISK (around 13 euros), do not forget to ask the bus driver for the transfer ticket for the next bus. You will change from the stop “Ráðhúsið” to the bus number 11 direction “Seltjarnarnes”, get off from the stop
Lindarbraut / Hæðarbraut then walk up the street (around 300 meters) to the Blue House. More information about the bus you can find here.
However, I personally would not prefer this option, because you are only saving about 8 euros with all this hassle and you really must walk a lot with your all luggage, even I did not mention that the schedule of the bus is quite limited on weekends and holidays.
You can check the timetable of the bus here.
To finalize, it all depends on your circumstances and preferences, but I hope my suggestions would help you a little bit to have the best experience with your trip to Iceland.
