1. Golden Circle
6-8 hour day tour that includes Gullfoss waterfall, tectonic plates, geysers and a volcanic crater
Start with the National Park “Thingvellir”; then drive through the village “Laugarvatn” with its “Fontana Spa”. Your next stop is the famous “Geysir” where you can park next to the gift shop. A 10-minute drive away you find the Waterfall “Gullfoss” where we recommend to eat the traditional Lamb soup with a free refill at its Coffee shop on the top of the hill. On the way back turn onto road 35. Shortly after you will find the Waterfall “Faxifoss”. Afterwards you can stop at the rebuilt church at “Skálholt”, and you will find your last sight on the same road 35 at the volcanic crater “Kerid”.
Some guests make a stop at the “Secret Lagoon” in Fludir; otherwise drive back to road number 1 heading to Reykjavik. If there is still enough daylight, stop at “Hveragerdi” for the hot River “Reykjadalur”
2. South Coast/Glacier Lagoon
8 / 15 hours if you go up to the glacier lagoon. Includes Skógafoss + Seljalandsfoss Waterfalls, the black sand beach, Skaftafell national park and Jökulsarlon glacier lagoon
Drive Road number 1 heading to Vik. After 80 minutes you have your first stop at “Seljalandsfoss”, a waterfall you can walk behind. Later, continue to the “Skogafoss” Waterfall and folk museum. Between both waterfalls is the Restaurant “Gamla fjosid”, that offers famous burgers and home slaughtered meat – it used to be a cowshed. We recommend you eat there on your way back.
Half way through you can optionally stop at the abandoned “Seljalandslaug” swimming pool or the Eyjafjallajökull “volcano museum”.10 km after Skogafoss you can turn left to the “Sólheimajökull” glacier tongue or turn right for a hike to the crashed “DC 3 Plane”
Later drive to “Dyraholaey” where you have a view on top of the mountain to the black beach.
Continue back to Road Number 1 and turn right for “Reynisfjara” beach where you can walk on it and see the basalt stones. (Please be aware of dangerous currents!)
You can end your tour in Vik before you head back to Reykjavik or continue further with your next stop at “Skaftafell” National Park with a potential visit of the “Visitors Center”, “Svartifoss” a waterfall surrounded by Basalt stones or a hike to or on the “Vatnajokull glacier”.
Continue for 50 minutes further until you have your last stop at the famous “Jökulsarlon” glacier lagoon.
Don’t forget the “Ice remains” at the beach next to the lagoon and head back on time for Reykjavik
3. Reykjanes Peninsula
5-7 hour day tour to discover the beautiful area around the Blue Lagoon
This tour is strongly recommended if you plan anyway to go to the Blue Lagoon or have a later flight.
Drive towards“Keflavik Airport” and before the aluminium smelter turn left to “road 42” heading to “Krysuvik” there you see besides the rugged landscapes “Kleifarvatn”and “Seltún” Geothermal area.
After head to the town “Grindavik” where you can stop at the harbour for Iceland´s best Lobster soup at “Kaffi Briggjan”. After enjoy your visit of the “Blue Lagoon” or continue with “Road 425” with your next stop at “Gunnuhver” Geothermal field and one exit later at the “Lighthouse” by the cliffs.10 minutes after you find to the right a walking “bridge between tectonic plates” and now you can head back to Reykjavik with one last stop at the “Viking World” in “Njardvik” with its Viking ship.
4. Snaefellsnes Peninsula
7-9 hour day tour around the beautiful peninsula. Includes white and black sand beaches, bird cliffs, spectacular mountains and volcanic craters, etc.
Leave Reykjavik and head to the town of “Stykkishólmur” where you can eat lunch and enjoy a boattour around the “Borgarfjord”. Half way you can stop at “Eldborg” Volcanic Caldera and “Gerduberg” Basalt Columns. After “Stikkisholmur” continue to famous “Kirkufell Mountain” with its surrounding waterfalls. 5. Whale fjord – Hvalfjördur
4-6 hours tour. You can find an ex World War II naval base of the Allies, a whale-hunting station, and abandoned farms surrounded by waterfalls. All located in the picturesque fjord.
After leaving Reykjavik turn right before the tunnel on “Road Number 1” heading to “Akureyri”. All “sights”as written on top are easy to find and half way through you find the exit for “Glymur”
6-7 hour tour including Reykholt religious centre, geothermal fields, and Bjarnafoss Waterfall. Perfect daytour if you plan to join the Into The Glacier Tour (www.intotheglacier.is)
Drive towards “Husafell” and stop at the geothermal field “Deildartunguhver” shortly after see historic “Reykholt” and enjoy the waterfall “Bjarnafoss”.
